Greg Smart has been with Macrossan & Amiet since 2006, having come to Mackay to practice commercial litigation following his practical legal training.
After moving all over during his youth and coming to Mackay, he says he has “never looked back”. He is now engaged, owns a house and calls Mackay home.
Greg was inspired to become a lawyer when, in Grade 5, a Barrister - complete with robes and wig - came to the school as part of Careers Week. He hasn’t wanted to do anything else since then.
He really enjoys litigation, which he says is “fun, challenging and never the same” and loves the mental challenge of a good legal argument.
Greg’s strength is being able to think outside the square - coming up with the best legal solution for the desired outcome when litigating - and ensuring that the best possible arguments, case and defences are raised.
Since being admitted as a Solicitor in December 2004, he has gained broad experience including experience acting in commercial and business disputes of all kinds – particularly in building and construction disputes, acting for builders, contractors and owners.
His other areas of expertise include debt recovery, Building Services Authority matters, court and tribunal matters and criminal compensation.
Greg also has volunteered his time at the Mackay and District Community Legal Centre Inc, is a committee member of the Mackay District Law Association and is secretary of the North Queensland Law Association.
When not doing all of this, he likes to spend time with his fiancée, his pets and his mates.
