On Friday 1 July 2022, we celebrated some milestones and changes of the firm. The retirement as Director of John Formosa, the departure of Darren Sekac and the appointment of Steven Hayles as Director.
John Formosa
After 43 years, 33 years as a Director of the firm, John has taken a step towards retirement by retiring from the directorship. John will move into a Consultant role and will continue to work as a lawyer and remain available to assist his clients.
John started with Macrossan & Amiet as an Articled Clerk in 1979 under the direction of the late Anthony “Tony” Ghusn and was admitted as a solicitor in 1985, later becoming a partner on 1 July 1989 alongside retired director Damian Carroll. During his time with the firm, John was appointed a Notary Public and has continued our expansion of the firm in the Proserpine/Whitsunday region with regular Tuesday visits.
Darren Sekac
Darren departed the firm after 30 years, 24 of those as a partner, having worked the last few years travelling back and forth regularly from the Gold Coast to meet with clients.
Darren commenced with Macrossan & Amiet in July 1992 as a solicitor. He became a partner on 1 July 1998. Later that year, Darren was one of the first solicitors in Queensland to be accredited by the Queensland Law Society as a specialist in the civil litigation field of personal injuries law and he maintains that accreditation acting for injured parties.
Darren departs the firm on good terms to be with his family on the Gold Coast.
Steven Hayles
Congratulations to Steven Hayles on his promotion to Director.
Steven has been employed with Macrossan & Amiet since 2006 commencing as a Trainee Solicitor. He is our senior criminal lawyer and also practises in employment and estate matters.
