On Sunday the 7th of June 22 staff, family and friends ran in the Mackay Marina Run in support of the Leukaemia Foundation. The majority of the staff were part of the 5km Corporate Challenge with Kirrily Borg running in the 8km event. Youngest participants in the run were Evelyn (3 yrs) and Charlotte Windsor (famous name – 1 yr). As a result of the participation of the staff the sum of $1,400.00 was donated to the Leukaemia Foundation.
The Marina Run has now become a major event for the Mackay region with 2,600 competitors taking part in the half marathon, 8km run, 5km run, 3km children’s run and the 5km corporate challenge.
The event is likely to raise in the vicinity of $25,000.00 for the Leukaemia Foundation this year. The foundation became the major benefactor of funds raised each year from the event as a result of the Mackay Road Runners wanting to support Leukaemia sufferers following legendary Mackay Road Runner Fred Farmer contracting the disease. Unfortunately he lost his battle with Leukaemia but the resolve of the Mackay Road Runners has ensured that there will be a continuing stream of funds donated to the Leukaemia Foundation to assist other sufferers and support the research for a cure.
The team are to be congratulated for their participation in this event.
