Macrossan & Amiet Foundation Directors, Jeffrey Ruddell and Andrew Telford, travelled to Bowen on Thursday 6th November 2014 to be present at the opening of the Bowen Neighbourhood Centre’s “Shed Shop”. The Shop sells second hand goods and generates funds to operate the Soup Kitchen which is manned by the Centre’s staff and local volunteers.
In the last 12 months, the Soup Kitchen has had 19,000 visits by people in need. Mr Telford was informed that the Bowen region is the third most disadvantaged in Queensland after Bamaga and Palm Island. The community in Bowen is suffering immensely. It was sobering to hear how widespread the need for help was within the Bowen community. In particular, the Neighbourhood Centre would like any beds to be donated so if you have any spare beds or any other“odds and ends”that might be able to generate money by sale in the Shop please contact the Neighbourhood Centre.
Please note that the Shed has a Facebook page which can be accessed via the Bowen Neighbourhood Centre’s website: http://bowenneighbourhoodcentre.org.au/featured/bowen-shedshop/.The telephone number for the Bowen Community Neighborhood Centre is 4786 2111.
