Draft Mackay Regional Council Planning Scheme
What is the new draft planning scheme all about?
Mackay Regional Council has prepared a new planning scheme for the Mackay Region and the public consultation period has now commenced.
The new planning scheme could affect the zoning of your land and therefore have a major impact on the future use and value of your land.
The draft planning scheme outlines council’s vision to:
Provide a detailed and strategic direction for the region
- Manage land use and development for the next 20 years
- Ensure a sustainable level of growth in preparing for an expected population of 200,000 in 2031 while minimising the impact on the environment
- Ensuring the region remains vibrant, prosperous and sustainable
- Maintain and enhance our liveability
- Outlines a Priority Infrastructure Plan, detailing requirements for future infrastructure, and the time frames for their delivery
What can you do?
You have the opportunity to give council a written submission during the public consultation process, which addresses for example, why you consider the draft planning scheme may not be appropriate as it applies to your land.
All submissions need to be made by 19 July, 2013.

We can assist you to prepare and lodge your submission prior to 19 July, 2013. , which council have to accept as a ‘properly made’ submission.
We can also work with any of your other professional consultants, such as town planners, in preparing the submission.
