The Chief Justice is the highest ranking judicial officer in Queensland and has the main responsibility of upholding the rule of law and maintaining community confidence in the administration of justice. The Chief Justice also establishes the rules and procedures of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
Queensland’s 18th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Tim Carmody, was sworn in on Tuesday 8 July 2014. Throughout his legal career he has practiced as a barrister, served as the Queensland Crime Commissioner and a Judge in the Family Court of Australia. Most recently he was appointed as a District Court Judge and Chief Magistrate.
Former Chief Justice Paul de Jersey has been appointed as the Queensland Governor and will be sworn into this position on 29 July 2014. Many of the former Chief Justices have gone on to serve the community through different positions.
Macrossan & Amiet are proud to celebrate a close tie to the role of Chief Justice of Queensland. Vince Macrossan, one of the earliest partners of the firm came from a family with a long standing in Queensland’s legal history. His two brothers Hugh Dennis Macrossan and Neal William Macrossan were both appointed as Chief Justices in the 1940’s. Vince Macrossan’s son, John Murtagh Macrossan served as Chief Justice between 10 April 1989 and his retirement on 16 February 1998.
