Profile: Leonie Dubbelman

I grew up amongst the cane farms at Strathdickie situated between Proserpine and Airlie Beach. My parents, settled here after circumnavigating Australia and deciding that this area is where they wanted to establish roots and raise a family. They remain here to this day. Over the years they have raised two children and opened a gift store in Proserpine called Colour Me Crazy.

As I suspect is the case with most family businesses, my sister and I were roped into working in the shop after school. While merchandising and gift wrapping was fun when my sister and I were children, during my senior years of high school I decided I needed a job that paid more than the natural
love and affection of my parents. I worked at the Proserpine branch of the ANZ bank as bank teller for a few years before moving away to further my education. I have since completed a Bachelor of Laws degree at Latrobe University in Melbourne.

What attracts me to law is my indignation towards injustice. I have always had a strong moral compass and felt the need to stand up for what I believe is just and fair. It is this character trait that has led some to suggest that I can be awfully stubborn and argumentative. I must concede that I do enjoy participating in a well-reasoned “debate”.

I feel very fortunate to be back in the Whitsunday region. From my perspective there is nothing like being close to family and being able to walk down the street and be greeted by familiar faces. I look forward to starting my career with Macrossan & Amiet Solicitors and working with its very experienced and knowledgeable professional staff.
