The sentences imposed on Defendants by Magistrates and Judges in our Court systems can sometimes be the subject of criticism by the media and members of the public.
As part of its role to inform and engage the public on the complex nature of sentencing procedures in court, the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council has launched a new interactive website Judge for Yourself. The website gives ordinary members of the public an opportunity to play the role of a sentencing judge.
Three cases based on real life events are presented and the users are asked to pass sentence. Users are then taken through the court process with extra evidence and video footage and asked to pass sentence again with the additional knowledge.

Free live sessions of Judge for Yourself are also being held in community sessions, open to the public, across the state during June and July.
In Mackay sessions will be held at the Dudley Denny City Library on Thursday 29 June 2017 at 10:00am and Friday 30 June 2017 at 1:30pm.
