Family Law Act changes
Following the recommendations made by the Royal Commission into Domestic Violence, changes were made to the Family Law Act 1975 and such changes recently came into effect. These changes provide for a legislative ban on personal cross examination in matters that involve family violence.
Domestic Violence Leave
From 1 August 2018 employees may now be entitled to take unpaid leave to deal with family and domestic violence following a decision by the Fair Work Commission.
Tracking Devices
Queensland Magistrates were granted power to Order the wearing of tracking devices as a condition of being released on bail as of 31 March 2018. Since the changes came into effect the local Magistrates Court has made at least one of these Orders.

Changes to the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act now give police further power with respect to the conditions which they can impose in a Police Protection Notice’s to those who allegedly commit acts of domestic violence.
